Is a Posture Analysis Right for You? What to Expect

If you've been living with chronic pain — back, hip, knee, shoulder, neck — you've probably wondered whether there's something more you could be doing.

Maybe you've tried physical therapy and gotten some relief, only to have the pain come back. Maybe you've been told your pain is "just part of aging." Maybe you've had imaging done and been told everything looks normal, even though you're clearly not fine.

A Posture Analysis might be exactly what you've been missing.

In this post, I want to walk you through what a Posture Analysis actually involves, who it's best suited for, and what you can expect to take away from your first session. My goal is to give you enough information to decide whether it's the right next step for you — with no pressure either way.

What Is a Posture Analysis?

A Posture Analysis is a comprehensive, one-on-one assessment of how your body is positioned and how that positioning relates to your pain.

It's based on the Egoscue Method, a postural alignment therapy developed by Pete Egoscue that has helped thousands of people eliminate chronic pain without surgery or medication. The core insight of the method is simple: most chronic pain is caused by postural misalignment, and when that misalignment is corrected, the pain resolves.

The Posture Analysis is the starting point. It's where we figure out exactly what's going on in your body — and what needs to change.

Who Is a Posture Analysis For?

A Posture Analysis is a good fit if you:

  • Have chronic pain that hasn't responded to other treatments
  • Have been told your imaging looks "normal" but you're still in pain
  • Want to understand the root cause of your pain, not just manage symptoms
  • Are recovering from surgery or illness and want to rebuild properly
  • Are a cancer survivor looking to regain strength and mobility
  • Simply want to move better and feel better in your body

It's also a good fit if you're skeptical. I've worked with plenty of clients who came in doubtful and left with a completely different understanding of their body. The assessment speaks for itself.

What Happens During the Session

A Posture Analysis session runs about 1 to 1.5 hours. Here's what to expect:

We Start with a Conversation

Before I look at your posture, I want to understand your history. Where is your pain? How long have you had it? What treatments have you tried? What makes it better or worse?

This conversation gives me important context. Pain is rarely random — there's usually a pattern, and your history helps me see it.

The Postural Assessment

Next, I'll observe your posture from multiple angles — front, back, and side. I'm looking at the position of your feet, ankles, knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and head.

What I'm looking for are deviations from the body's natural, load-bearing position. When the body is properly aligned, weight is distributed evenly and muscles work in balance. When it's not, certain muscles overwork and others go dormant — and that imbalance creates stress that eventually becomes pain.

I'll point out what I'm seeing as we go, so you understand the connection between your posture and your pain. Most clients find this part genuinely eye-opening.

The E-Cise Program

Based on what I find in the assessment, I'll design a personalized e-cise program for you. E-cises are gentle, targeted exercises that encourage your body to release compensatory patterns and return to proper alignment.

Your program will be specific to your body and your postural pattern. It's not a generic set of exercises — it's designed for you.

I'll walk you through each e-cise in the session so you know exactly how to do them correctly at home.

What You Leave With

By the end of the session, you'll have:

  • A clear understanding of your postural pattern and how it relates to your pain
  • A personalized e-cise program to do at home
  • Guidance on how often to do the exercises and what to expect
  • My contact information for follow-up questions and ongoing support

Most clients leave feeling like they finally have a real explanation for their pain — and a real plan to address it.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

This varies from person to person, but many clients notice changes within the first few weeks of consistently doing their e-cise program.

Some people feel a difference after just a few sessions. Others — particularly those with long-standing, complex patterns — take longer. The key is consistency. E-cises work by gradually retraining your muscles and repositioning your joints. That takes time, but the results tend to be lasting.

I'll be honest with you about what to expect based on your specific situation. I don't make promises I can't keep — but I've seen this work for people who had tried everything else.

What About Ongoing Sessions?

After your initial Posture Analysis, many clients choose to continue with Alignment Training sessions. These are one-hour, one-on-one sessions where we progress your e-cise program, address any new patterns that emerge, and keep your body moving in the right direction.

I also offer virtual sessions for clients who can't come in person. These are conducted via Zoom or FaceTime and are a great option for check-ins, program adjustments, and ongoing support — wherever you are.

Is It Worth It?

That's ultimately a question only you can answer. But I'll tell you what I tell every prospective client: if you've been living with pain that hasn't responded to other treatments, a Posture Analysis is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your health.

You'll leave with a clear picture of what's driving your pain and a concrete plan to address it. That alone is worth a great deal — especially if you've spent years getting treatments that only addressed symptoms.

If you're ready to find out what's actually going on in your body, I'd love to work with you.
