Egoscue Method Birmingham AL: Beth Brake's Guide to Posture Therapy

If you've been searching for the Egoscue Method in Birmingham, AL, you've found the right place. I'm Beth Brake, a certified Postural Alignment Specialist and the founder of All About You Fitness, located at 4 Office Park Circle, Suite 203, in Birmingham. The Egoscue Method is the foundation of everything I do — and it's the reason my clients finally find lasting relief after years of chasing pain.

What Is the Egoscue Method?

The Egoscue Method is a postural alignment therapy developed in the 1970s by Pete Egoscue, a Vietnam War veteran who refused to accept a life of chronic pain after a severe hip injury. Through years of research and self-experimentation, Egoscue discovered that most chronic musculoskeletal pain is not caused by the site of the pain — it's caused by postural misalignment throughout the entire body.

Your knee doesn't hurt because something is wrong with your knee. Your knee hurts because your hips are rotated, your pelvis is tilted, and your skeletal structure is loading that joint in ways it was never designed to handle. The Egoscue Method corrects the root cause — the misalignment — rather than treating the symptom.

This is why it works when so many other approaches don't.

Why I Chose the Egoscue Method

I didn't come to the Egoscue Method as a fitness professional looking for a new modality. I came to it as a patient.

I was dealing with chronic pain that conventional medicine couldn't resolve. I tried physical therapy, I tried medications, and I kept getting temporary relief that never lasted. When I discovered the Egoscue Method, everything changed. The logic was undeniable: if your body is out of alignment, no amount of treating the painful area will fix the underlying problem.

I became certified as a Postural Alignment Specialist because I wanted to give other people what I had found. I also hold a certification as a Cancer Exercise Specialist — a credential that grew out of my own experience as a breast cancer survivor and my commitment to helping others navigate recovery with strength and confidence.

Today, I work with clients in Birmingham and across the country, helping them understand why their bodies hurt and giving them the tools to change it.

What a Posture Therapy Session Looks Like at All About You Fitness

When you come to my studio in Birmingham, your first appointment is a comprehensive Posture Analysis. This 1 to 1.5-hour session is the foundation of everything that follows.

I assess your posture from multiple angles — front, back, and side — to identify where your skeleton has drifted from its ideal position. I look at your feet, ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, and head position as an interconnected system, not as isolated parts.

From that assessment, I design a personalized e-cise menu — a series of gentle, targeted exercises specific to your body's misalignment pattern. E-cises are not a generic workout. They are precise movements designed to reactivate dormant muscles, release compensatory tension, and guide your joints back into proper alignment.

Your e-cise menu takes about 20 to 30 minutes a day to complete. Most clients begin noticing changes within the first few weeks.

Who Comes to See Me in Birmingham

My clients come from across the Birmingham metro area — Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Hoover, Homewood, and beyond. They also come from across the country for virtual sessions.

What they have in common is that they've tried other things. They've done physical therapy. They've had injections. Some have had surgeries. And they're still in pain.

The conditions I work with most often include:

  • Chronic lower back pain and sciatica — one of the most common presentations I see, and one of the most responsive to postural alignment work
  • Hip pain — including clients who have had hip replacements and are still struggling
  • Knee pain — often rooted in hip and pelvic misalignment, not the knee itself
  • Shoulder and neck pain — frequently connected to forward head posture and thoracic dysfunction
  • Headaches and fatigue — often driven by cervical misalignment and upper body tension
  • Scoliosis — postural work can significantly reduce the functional impact of scoliosis
  • Cancer recovery — I specialize in helping cancer survivors rebuild strength, reduce treatment-related pain, and reclaim their physical confidence
  • Parkinson's disease and MS — gentle postural alignment work can improve balance, reduce fall risk, and support quality of life

If you're dealing with chronic pain of any kind, there's a very good chance postural misalignment is a contributing factor.

The Research Behind the Egoscue Method

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that the Egoscue Method produced 46% greater pain relief at three months compared to traditional medical care, and 77% greater pain relief over one year. Patients also reported 2.5 times greater improvement in quality of life.

These are not marginal differences. They reflect what I see in my practice every week: people who have been suffering for years finding real, lasting relief through postural alignment therapy.

In-Person and Virtual Sessions

My Birmingham studio is located at 4 Office Park Circle, Suite 203, Birmingham, AL 35223. In-person sessions allow me to assess your posture directly and make real-time adjustments to your e-cise menu.

I also offer virtual Posture Analysis sessions for clients who are outside the Birmingham area or prefer to work from home. Virtual sessions are conducted via video call and are just as thorough as in-person appointments. The Posture Analysis — in-person or virtual — is $275. Follow-up Alignment Training sessions are $90 per hour.
